All three teams were in action this weekend, the full match reports can be found below:
Horfield 3 vs Taunton Soul 3 (21-6)
So good news 3rds got the day off to a winning start against Taunton 3. We played very well and took a 13-0 half time lead before eventually winning 21-6.
Thank you very much to Suzi and Jolanda for helping us out and wishing a speedy recovery to Liz Matthews, whose finger was bending the wrong way when she left. However she was MVP, so silver linings!
Horfield 2 vs Taunton Soul 2 (12-20)
Horfield 2 took on Taunton 2 in todays match. They had many long shots in the first 15 minutes and took a 6-1 advantage over us, we came together in attack and had a great last 15 minutes in the half to keep within reach at 11-6.
The positivity was kept in the 2nd half and we kept with them for the next 15 minutes, but unfortunately their boys found a few more long shots towards the end and the final score was a 20-12 loss.
Despite the loss we managed to keep heads up throughout the game and not let the frustration show in our play. Needed to get a few more shots up in attack and perhaps pressurise their boys long shots but it was a fun game to be part of. Lots of good things to take into the next games!
Horfield 1 took on Gloucester Lions 1 today. Traditionally a difficult game which last season ended twice with one goal defeats so we knew we had a challenge on our hands!
We took a quick 3 goal lead in the game but the Lions fought back to level the match. We didn’t panic though and some fantastic shooting saw us regain the lead and never look back. The final score was 19-10.
There was some brilliant play by everyone today and our new first team is starting to mould together nicely. Massive shout outs to Robert and Heather who were MVPs and scored 8 and 5 goals each. I’m pretty sure I’ll be handing some of my awards over at the end of the season but to be completely honest if we smash it like that every weekend, I’ll give them away!
Bristol is the European City of Sport for 2017, and it has been encouraging people try new sports to highlight how many opportunities there are within Bristol to get into sports. Horfield Korfball Club were excited to get involved with this and we invited them to visit one of our training sessions as part of their Are You Game? campaign. They brought the XtraTime team to our training session and we gave them an introduction to the sport and our club, which has been translated into the following article:
The little known game of Korfball might sound like an invention from the pen of JK Rowling, but it is in fact a Dutch sport stretching back over a hundred years. Now with four local clubs in Bristol and one in Gloucester it is beginning to make strides in the Westcountry...to read further please follow this link.

The season is officially under way for Horfield Korfball Club, the first training session took place last night (Monday 9th August) with more than enough people to play a full game. Despite some attempts by the M5 traffic to throw off our plans.
There was lots of shooting practice, game practice and we also introduced Korfball to some brand new players. One of the focuses this season is to get everyone up to speed with all the Korfball terminologies, last night we begun with the different structures; 4-0, 3-1, 2-2 where the 2nd digit always refers to what's going on under the post.
This Monday training slot will be used throughout the season and we will add in a Wednesday slot from September onwards at the same time. All in preparation for the league game starting in October.
